Jack Lythaby
Jack Lythaby is a third-year student at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, studying BMus(Hons) under Owen Farr. His relationship with music began at his local primary school and has taken him on an exciting journey, playing tenor horn for a number of brass bands. He was appointed solo horn with Lydbrook Band, a Championship Section band based in the Forest of Dean, at the age of 16 and he currently holds the first horn seat with Tredegar Town Band. He is a current member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales and is an alumnus of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Jack’s achievements include achieving both ABRSM Grade 8 Theory of Music and Music Performance, and being awarded the most promising player (aged 16-21) award in 2015 and most outstanding horn player in 2017 at the annual Foden's Band Solo Contest.
He has always enjoyed listening to a wide variety of genres of music and through his studies has developed his arranging skills; he particularly enjoys arranging classical pieces for brass band, with an aim of making them accessible at all levels.
